Staying Healthy

Guide to staying healthy indoors:

With millions worldwide tasked to stay indoors to curb the spread of the Coronavirus these days, we have put together this simple guide to help everyone stay healthy during these tough times.

Practice good personal hygiene:

Personal hygiene is critical in keeping bacteria, viruses and all that nasty bugs at bay. Even though you may not be heading outdoors, it is still critical to upkeep these good habits at home. Dirty surfaces in your home can be a hotbed of bacteria and viruses too! Hence, continuing basic habits like hand washing, taking daily showers, not leaving used tissues lying around and more, is essential to prevent infections or transmissions.

Eat Healthy:

Good nutrition is key to a healthy body. This is nothing new to anyone. Make sure you are still getting a good balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat, fibre, vitamins and more in your daily meals to stay healthy. Being stuck indoors is no excuse for turning to junk and processed food for comfort. With plenty of order-in meal options, continue to ensure you incorporate fresh food options in your daily meals.

Indoor workouts:

Research has proven that regular and moderate exercise can help to boost immune systems. If that is not a good enough reason to start exercising, we don't know what is.

Not able to visit your local gym for your regular workout? Not a problem. Plenty of gyms, exercise studios are offering virtual classes to help their regulars get their weekly dose of fitness. No equipment? Not a problem again. There are plenty of no-equipment workouts available online as well. If it is motivation you need, get creative! Gather a few like-minded friends or family members via group teleconferencing and make sure all of you are on board with a regular exercise routine to stay healthy while indoors.

Practice mindfulness:

Being stuck at home and constantly overexposed to the chaos that is happening out in the world can create a feeling of overwhelming anxiety. Practicing mindfulness can be helpful in calming anxiety and help you cope with these new unfamiliar stressors in your life. Be intentional about setting aside time for simple mindfulness activities: from simple breathing exercises to listening to a meditation podcast to guide you.

Regular sleep:

Scientists worldwide have found that poor sleep quality is linked to impairment of immune system, depression and many other health risks. From nagging parents, to even scientists now, it is clear that getting enough sleep is absolutely important for maintaining good physical and mental health. Make sure you get your 8 hours of sleep daily to keep a sharp mind and healthy body. This is not the time to get an impaired immune system!
